Mommy Dearest

I have two daughters; Emma who is 15 and Sophie who is 4 months. One of them is grounded... can you guess which one?

See, I am lucky, I realize this. Emma is a great kid in many, many ways. She is an honor roll student in 10th grade and she made it in to a very exclusive peforming arts high school which is ranked by Newsweek at number 20, of the top 100 schools in the nation (and I don't have to pay a dime for it... weeeeeeheeeee!) She is very smart (maybe too smart), very sweet (to other people) and just a good kid.

I know what I was like at her age, eh...thank God she is not like me. She is not into boys, well, she likes them, but is not boy crazy and doesn't do anything I wouldn't approve of (and I wouldn't approve of anything, if you catch my drift), she does not swear, smoke, drink, do drugs. She is not into MySpace, FaceBook or whatever else... She is into theatre and school and her nice friends who are also into those same things.

But here is the problem...when I entitled this post "Mommy Dearest" I was referring to her, not me. Confused?

2 years ago, the day she turned 13, actually, she became so bossy and now treats me like SHE is MY mother! The tables have really turned in this relationship, she is always telling me what to do and how to do it. To the point where I actually said to her the other day, whined, actually "Your not the boss of me!!!!"

Granted, she is much smarter than me, but I'm not going to let her know that! I mean, she is book smart, ya know? I have street smarts, I learned everything I know at the school of hard knocks... okay, not really...I grew up in Upstate NY, not exactly the "hood".

Still, I wouldn't mind her acting like my mother if she were more of a June Clever type "Mom", but noooo, she is a "No Wire Hangers Ever!!!" kind of "Mom".

So, I took back my hard earned title of Mommy Dearest and grounded her.
